I’m in recovery, I had an accident and it left me in pieces, now I’m scattered like bit size Reese’s. I snapped like a kit-kat and no one can put me back together, I’m full of fluff like a 3 musketeer but I’m getting better, starting to find a grip with my butterfingers but my mind is still wrapped up like a pack of twizzlers. I’m trying to be bright like a lemon head but I’m sour and I just wanna stay in bed, all day. I even get salty on a payday. I’ve gone nuts like Babe Ruth but I’m starting to find my Almond Joy on 5th Avenue. I need to have more fun dip and find myself a cute Hershey Kiss to melt me, now and later. I’m about to starburst through with my crew cause we got the skittles and the juicy fruit, have a chew or two like twix, cause we come in abundance like a pack of Swedish fish. Now I’m swimming in the path to recover, showing my true colors like a everlasting gobstopper. And I thank y’all for being my lifesavers cause without you I’d be a depressed poet without a sweet tooth.
Background: Chalice aka Nenwon Gbilia was recovery from a break-up at the time he wrote this poem. He was beginning to see clearly days and was no longer emotional about the situation so he wanted to detail his “sweet” recovery. There are 20 candy references in this poem, can you find them all?
